Things To Do, St Cyprien

St Cyprien is obviously very much about the beach, the port, swimming and being out and about.  But there are other things to do in St Cyprien.

Our apartment in St Cyprien is roughly 300m from the south beach – a steady stroll of no more than 5 minutes.  The south beach is the quieter of the two beaches in St Cyprien, but still has lifeguard stations during the summer, and stretches all the way to Argelés. One word of advice – if you were to turn to your right when you arrive at the beach, within 400m is the naturist beach!

The port is about 2 km from the apartment, 5 minutes by car or a nice walk alongside the laguna.  We frequently cycle to the port for coffee or drinks.  There are numerous bars and restaurants in the port area as well as boat trips and watersports.  Normally on a morning it is possible to buy fresh seafood straight from the boat on the quay side.  One of our favourite places to sit and people watch is the Bateau Ivre.

The north beach is generally more crowded in the peak summer months and stretches all the way to Canet. Again there are lifeguard stations during the summer months.  It is possible to cycle all the way to Canet along the seafront.

Away from the beach try the water park Aqualand.  Open from June until early September it is only a 5-10 minute walk from the apartment where all the family can enjoy a fun day out. Here is a link to their site  http://aqualand.fr/saint-cyprien

For the very active try the Grand Stade les Capellans.  Here you can play tennis, squash, padel, use the gym and swim. It is also situated next to the Jardin des Plantes which is described as a veritable haven of peace. Set in 5 hectares with over 800 species of plant and tree. There are several centres for horse riding situated around St Cyprien.  You can try Western style riding or just take an easy stroll for an hour.  All abilities and ages are catered for.  Best to contact the tourist office.

Eating Out

When it comes to eating out you are literally spoilt for choice.  Within easy reach of the apartment – Les Fregates, attached to the little supermarket, has a nice outside terrace and you can also order pizza for takeaway.  The commercial centre at Les Capellans has several restaurants including pizza, tapas and bistro style restaurants.  At the Grand Stade try La Main a La Pate. At the port the options are numerous – one of our favourites open all year is La Tonnelle but if you fancy a little further afield try La Passage by Lidl (opposite the Gendarmerie).
