The Pyrenees Orientales is a fabulously diverse area with plenty to keep everyone occupied. Our apartment is situated in the small village of Fuilla with magnificent views of the famous Mount Canigou as well as other peaks all around. But we are only 4km from the UNESCO World Heritage site of Villefranche de Conflent – a medieaval fortified town, only 10 km from the market town of Prades and 7km from the Spa town of Vernet les Bains.
In the area, for the more active, there are plenty of hiking trails, cycling trails, caves and four-wheel-drive tours up Mount Canigou as well as the endless expanse of the majestic Pyrenees Orientales.
In the summer bike parks are on offer at the ski stations and Lake Matemale is a watersports paradise. There is also lake swimming at Vinca, with a beach and water park activities as well as a cafe / restaurant. The beaches of the Mediterranean are less than 1 hour away – try Canet Plage, St Cyprien or Argelés Sur Mer.
In winter skiing is only a short drive. The first ski station of Cambre D’Aze is rougly 40 minutes away, just after the fortified town of Mont Louis. In total there are 7 ski stations to choose from suitable for all ages and abilities.
